On Mission: Not my will, but Yours
Verse of the Week
Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine. - Luke 22:42
Quick Thought
Today is called Mundy Thursday. The day before the cross. It was at this time that Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray.
What grips me most about this moment in Luke 22:42 is His honesty. Because he was fully God, Jesus knew exactly what was coming. But because he was fully man, He begged the Father for another way. “If you are willing, take this cup from me…” He didn’t hide His fear—And yet—He surrendered: “Not my will, but yours be done.”
He chose the cross. He chose obedience. He chose us.
It makes me pause and ask: Does my prayer life reflect that kind of trust? Do I have the faith to say, “Your will, not mine,” even when I know it may be painful or hard?
Sometimes I’m not sure that I do—but I want to. I want to trust the Father like Jesus did. To pray with that kind of surrender, that kind of faith in God's plans.
Challenge:
I don't know what many of you are going through. But I do know that you have a God who cares deeply for you and who wants the best for you. A God who also knows what is best for you. This week, pray honestly. Don’t hold back. And when it’s hard, ask God for the courage to say, “Your will, not mine.” Start with one area of your life—and hand it over to Him.
Have a blessed weekend!
